Just a few months ago, I finished working on a sketchbook that was then sent to the Brooklyn Art Library for the Sketchbook Project 2012 Tour. For those who don't know, this is essentially a project where anyone interested in filling out a sketchbook, regardless of skill level, can submit their artwork to an art show that tours around the United States without the fear of getting screened by a judging committee.
It gives a chance for anyone with a creative streak to have the chance to share their artwork to a large, broad audience. It was a really neat experience to create this sketchbook without any sort of added pressure (whether to impress a client or getting a good grade on it). There was a list of themes we could choose from to base our sketchbooks on and I chose, "Ask me how I can help." This was admittedly, a difficult choice since it was very ambiguous. I decided to go to more for a 'self-help' direction and came up with the idea of pairing food and jazz together. Similar to the concept of food and jazz pairings, I thought it would be a neat concept to come up with foods that would go well with certain jazz songs. If by chance, you stumbled on to my website by taking a look at my sketchbook, first of all, thank you. Here's a link to the digital copy of my sketchbook and the links below are the tracks I mentioned on my sketchbook:
Track 1: "So What" by Miles Davis
Track 2: "Take Five" by Dave Brubeck
Track 3: "Yardbird Suite" by Charlie Parker
Track 4: "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat" by Charles Mingus
Track 5: "Night in Tunisia" by Dizzy Gillespie
Track 6: "Sing, Sing, Sing" by Benny Goodman
Track 7: "Take the 'A' Train" by Duke Ellington
